Biography:
Henry T. Courtney is an AV rated Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer and the founding partner in the Courtney Law Firm. He has a statewide and national practice devoted solely to trial work with a focus on litigating catastrophic injury cases in medical malpractice, personal injury and product liability. Mr. Courtney has recovered over 125 million dollars in settlements and verdicts for his clients. Mr. Courtney is a retired Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Air Force where he proudly served active duty as a JAG officer and later over 20 years in reserve duty. He served as the Mayor of Miami Shores from 1989-1991. Mr. Courtney is admitted to practice in all Florida state courts, all U.S. District Courts in Florida and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a Past President of the Miami Dade County Trial Lawyers Association. He served on the Florida Bar Board of Governors, he was certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy since 1980, he is a sustaining member of FJA and a sustaining member of AAJ. In addition, he has served on many civic organizations including, Trustee of Bayfront Park Management Trust, President of Shores Performing Arts Theater, Inc. (a non-profit corporation Board Member of the New World School of the Arts, and Trust Member of the Performing Arts Center Trust. Mr. Courtney is a member of The American Board of Trial Advocates, an invitation-only organization whose membership is extended only to trial lawyers with high personal character and an honorable reputation. Mr. Courtney earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Oregon and was admitted to practice in Florida in 1967. He earned his undergraduate degree also at the University of Oregon where he was in the ROTC, was President of his fraternity, Phi Gamma Delta, and where he was a member of the Varsity cross country, Varsity track, and Varsity soccer teams. He lives in Miami Beach with his wife, Margarita, and they are active in many local arts, education, charitable and philanthropic organizations. Mr. Courtney practices law with his daughter, Sara. He has three other children, Tom, a lawyer in private practice, Crissi, a teacher, and Michael, a construction manager.
