- Miami Herald – September 6, 1928 – Dade County today will dedicate its 28-story Courthouse, which cost $4,062,779.23 and is believed to be the tallest public building in the United States. It is the tallest building south of Baltimore. The formal dedication ceremony will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the base of the structure, which rises 335 feet from the ground. The structure was decorated yesterday for the event. The 28-story structure was started in the fall of 1925 and will be finished, with the exception of two elevators, by the end of the week. County officials will observe a half-holiday and city officials will remain in their offices to guide visitors through the building. County employees have been requested to assist in guiding guests through their departments. There will be no prisoners on the jail floors today. They are expected to be moved from the county stockade Monday.
