Biography:
For the past 40 years, David has represented clients in a wide variety of significant cases including having obtained the largest fraternity hazing verdict in the country on behalf of Mr. and Mrs. Meredith whose son Chad died in a hazing incident at the University of Miami. Following the jury’s verdict, David went to the Florida legislature to testify on the subject and helped draft Florida’s current hazing law. In addition to the Meredith case, David has represented other hazing victims both in Florida and elsewhere. Most recently, he represented the parents of Andrew Coffey who died in a hazing incident at Florida State University in November 2017 and the fraternity members who he sued were criminally prosecuted under the “Chad Meredith Act” that David helped to write. He just recently settled a hazing case on behalf of Nicholas Mauricio who received a serious brain injury as a result of a fraternity ritual at FSU. Following his most recent hazing cases, David drafted new legislation to make further improvements to Florida’s hazing laws that he last wrote 12 years ago. The current bill is working its way through the Florida legislature in the 2019 session and he is optimistic that it will be signed into law this year.
